What do we do?
🏖️
Clean and arrange proper infrastructure
Direct Action clean ups are both effective at removing pollutants from the environment directly, they also have a tendency to create long lasting change in behavior when combined with making sure there are collection points and vessels for trash to be deposited into.
🚸
Educate and enlighten
School Visits & Educational Materials are both effective tools when combating ignorance and lack of education. We visit schools and engage both students and teachers in conversation as well as handing out of children’s book “Tilly And The Turtle”
📱
Spread the word
Social Media & Awareness Actions spreading the word across the country that it’s time we stopped treating our precious nature like a rubbish bin. Sharing facts and research on the subject is just as important as cleaning a beach or a riverbank.
❤️
Stay honest
Transparency and openness towards our supporters and partners.
A day at the beach with Bahari Yetu
We begin the day by assembling the team near the location.
Everyone is full of energy and the mood is high. Our wonderful attendants pass out the gear to our volunteers. Everyone gets a t-shirt, a sack to collect rubbish in and a stick with a nail on it to spear trash with as well as a pair of gloves.
We start moving systematically in small groups as we clean the beach from all rubbish and plastics we can possibly find. Everything gets collected into a pile then some of our amazing volunteers stack it all up in bags and carry it to the pick-up location where the rubbish truck will come get it after the day is done.
After 4 hours of intense cleaning, hundreds if not thousands of plastic bottles, bags, old rags and plastic junk it is finally time to for a deserved meal and a drink ! The much awaited after party can begin, but not before our lovely “” holds a small speech urging the people to keep their beach clean and be proud of it.
Join us next time you too!
